I can’t believe it’s already 2018… holy moly. And now, it’s time to exercise some of those New Years Resolutions. It’s common to reflect on all of the things that have happened (or may not have happened) in the last year as it wraps up, while beginning a new one. But looking forward is key, in my opinion. Don’t get stuck and dwell on the past. It’s important to learn from your experiences and then use them as a springboard, in order to propel yourself forward towards your goals.
With the start of the new year comes the “new me” perspective. While I don’t believe that you need to wait until a new year to kickstart anything in your life, I do love that people are now using it as a baseline in order to make a change in their lives for the better. Out with the old, that no longer serves us, and in with the new, that will help us kick some serious ass. As a health professional, I like to gravitate towards products or brands that are working hard in order to truly help us help ourselves, while making a wonderful impact on the environment and on their communities alike. I mean, it’s a win-win, right?!
Here are some of the brands that I think you should watch out for this year!
If you haven’t heard of this wonderful line of supplements and essential oils yet, where in the world have you been? Veeva is making sure that you have your physical and mental health in order, by being dedicated to providing comprehensive natural and lasting relief from stress, anxiety and sleep disorders. Their mission is to help inspire individuals to find peace and gain a new perspective on mental health in general. By focusing on quality products developed by experienced health professionals, they’re able to provide solutions that actually work – and trust me, I’ve tried them and recommended them to clients and have seen results! For example, they don’t just address adrenal health for stress, they work on the often missing but integral neurotransmitter support, as well. Be sure to talk to your health professional about this brand if you’re struggling with anxiety, stress or sleep.
I grabbed some of these paleo-friendly snacks one day when I was wandering around Vancouver… I mean, any excuse to try some new treats, right? Now, I’m not normally one to go strictly paleo, but I was curious to give these babies a whirl. And let me tell you, they’re delicious, nutrient-dense and chock-full of natural ingredients to give you the energy that you need to get on with your many wonderful adventures. Now don’t you worry, cause Great Bear Paleo Bites are vegan and also free of gluten, wheat, dairy, soy and nuts!
Non-dairy based beverages are all the rage these days (I mean, most coffee shops even have them now – thank goodness!) and they’re a great alternative for those who can’t consume dairy. But I think it’s important to switch things up from the standard soy, almond or coconut milks. So, that’s why I was excited to try one that originates from vegetables. Now, it might sound a bit funky, but it’s probably my favourite one so far to add into the mix. Made from pea protein, tapioca and potato, it has the creaminess of 2% milk, and is chock-full of calcium, vitamin D and B12! I’ve even experimented with heating it up for a healthy hot chocolate and it passed the test with flying colours.
Mushrooms are my jam, folks. Honestly, I’m obsessed. Now, I’m not just talking about those button mushrooms you can buy at the grocery store. Although they’re fantastic, did you know that there are actually over 10,000 described species of fungi in North America alone?! And then there’s those that have yet to be discovered. Now, not all of them are edible, but those that are have some fantastic benefits. An entire kingdom of medicinal mushrooms exists out there that have been studied for centuries, with amazing health benefits to help with your immune system, energy and longevity. At Four Sigmatic, they believe in the real magic of functional mushrooms like Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, and Lion’s Mane, as well as other superfoods and adaptogenic herbs like rhodiola, eleuthero, and schisandra to help us all live healthier, more enhanced lives. They make drinking mushrooms super easy with their delicious mushroom coffees, elixirs, and superfood blends. Another aspect of this company that I truly love is that they’re big on perpetuating the education piece – so look out for their free guides, articles and even mushroom classes!
Is there anything that Tea Tree Oil can’t do? It’s one of the most researched oils known today. Coming from the Melaleuca Alternifolia plant, more widely known today as simply ‘tea tree’, it’s native to the Australian coast of New South Wales. Hailing from Australia, Thursday Plantation is hands-down my favourite brand as they guarantee that their essential oil products are 100% pure and of the highest standards. They even have a line of Tea Tree Oil-based products ranging from addressing acne, to body care, to antiseptic creams. Leveraging their expertise in natural oils, they have also launched Eucalyptus, Lavender and more recently Certified Organic Rosehip Oil. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this brand.
Now you’ve likely heard of this brand before as they really dominate the market for their greens supplements and powders. But, they don’t just stop there – not even close! One of their newest products is their Fermented Organic Gut Superfoods+. With a focus on gut support, they’ve created a new prebiotic that is easy to digest without causing bloating, as it’s fully fermented to improve digestion. Now, if you’re thinking “what the heck is a prebiotic?”, well they’re a non-digestible food ingredient (like fibre) that promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms within the intestines. So, they help to feed the probiotic bacteria that help to balance the microbiome, among many other amazing things. Gut support is one of the most important things you can do for your body, hands down!
Keep an eye out for these brands this year, as they’re making some pretty big waves. Also, be sure to tag me if you see some of them in your local store, online, or if you try some of them out for yourself!
Lots of love,
